Access to Water and Sanitation constitutes the 6th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG6) that has been adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 25 September 2015.

Clean and safe water resources – which are essential for the Economic and social well-being – constitute a challenge for the MENA region, both in terms of quality and quantity. This Situation is caused by a number of issues, including population and economic growth, climatic changes, urban and industrial pollution etc.

The scarcity of water resources in the MENA countries is considered a handicap facing the achievement of Sustainable Development in the region.

The appeal to innovative solutions to overcome this issue is needed in order to provide clean and affordable water to meet human necessities which is a substantial challenge of the 21st century.

Technological innovation can help address the increasing demand for water in the region and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in a more effective way.
